When it rains and water flows across our yards, streets and parking lots, it flows directly into storm drains. You've probably seen storm drains on our Alabama streets. Many people think that the water and pollutants that flow into a storm drain get treated, just like wastewater in a sewer system. However, these two systems are not connected. Everything that flows into a storm drain goes untreated directly into our creeks, rivers, lakes, and ultimately the ocean.
The Alabama Coastal Nonpoint Pollution Control Program (ACNPCP) is part of the Alabama Coastal Management Program that addresses water quality. All coastal states that participate in the National Coastal Zone Management Program are required to develop coastal nonpoint pollution control programs as mandated in 1990 by Section 6217 of the Coastal Zone Act Reauthorization Amendments. Federally the National Program is jointly administered by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Projects having the potential to impact Alabama's coastal resources are subject to review pursuant to ADEM's Coastal Rules. Fee Schedules can be located under Regulations / Division 1 Section 6. Some of these projects include:
