OpCert

To all Alabama Landfill Operators, Well Drillers, Water Workforce Operators, and their Supervisors and Administrative personnel, and Trainers,

OpCert Online, a new Operator Certification web portal, will launch on Monday, March 9, 2026.

OpCert Online will be your web resource for all applications, renewals, payments, continuing education, forms, etc.

OpCert Online will allow you to search for Operators and Well Drillers without creating an account.

However, in order to create and access your own OpCert Online User Profile, submit payments, log continuing education hours, etc.,

you will need your own unique email address.

After March 9, 2026, you will use your unique email address to set up an ADEM Web Portal Account and then request access to OpCert Online.

Step 1:

Setting up your ADEM Web Portal Account

Option 1: You already have an ADEM Web Portal account for AEPACS, eDWRS or eMORS.

You’re all set! Go to Step 2.

Option 2: You have your own email, don’t have a Web Portal account, and want hands-on assistance.

Water and Wastewater Personnel: Attend an in-person training session at the ARWA conference in Montgomery in March or the Joint Water conference in Mobile in April.

Or attend a virtual session in the spring (TBD).

For help, email the Web Portal Help Desk: ademwebportal@adem.alabama.gov

Option 3: You have your own email, don’t have a Web Portal account, and want to set up an account right away.

Full instructions on how to create an account are here: AWPUsersGuide.pdf

Passwords expire after 90 days, so I’d recommend waiting until at least February 2026. It’s easy to reset the password from the ADEM Web Portal, so if you want to start now, just plan to reset the password before the new OpCert Online system goes live.

For help, email the Web Portal Help Desk: ademwebportal@adem.alabama.gov

Option 4: You do not have your own email.

Get your own email address by March 2026, then choose Option 2 or 3 above.

Step 2:

Request access to OpCert Online from within the ADEM Web Portal.

Once you have a verified email address and ADEM Web Portal Account, you will need to request access to OpCert Online.

Instructions are here: AWPUsersGuide.pdf

This is only for active Operators, Well Drillers or their support personnel, including trainers.

You will NOT need an account to use the OpCert Online Public Search tools or to browse the OpCert Online site.

The purpose of water and wastewater treatment operator certification is to protect public health and welfare and to prevent pollution by classifying all water and wastewater treatment plants, water distribution systems, and public wastewater collection systems, and by establishing a program for the certification of the competency of operators to operate such plants and systems.
