ADEM certifies laboratories to perform testing of drinking water in the state. Public water systems must use these laboratories (or laboratories certified by EPA) for nearly all required monitoring. Consumers may also consider the use of a certified laboratory to test private wells.
Sanitary Sewer Overflow Map
The Sanitary Sewer Overflow map allows users to see the locations of SSOs that have been reported to the Department. They are displayed on the map for 10 days after the SSO has ceased. The colors indicate the volume of the discharge.

On November 26, 2006, the USEPA issued an aquatic pesticide rule which states that a Clean Water Act (CWA) permit is not required for the application of pesticides directly to water in order to control pests or for the application of pesticides to control pests that are present over or near water, where a portion of the pesticide will unavoidably be deposited in the water in order to target the pests (i.e., spraying to control non-native plants growing on the water's edge because some of the pesticide would unavoidably enter the water).
Many sources that anticipate constructing or modifying an air emission source within the Air Division's jurisdiction have the following questions regarding the permits issued by the Air Division:
A generator of hazardous waste or other special wastes desiring to dispose of these wastes in permitted disposal facilities in Alabama must receive approval from ADEM prior to such disposal, in accordance with 335-14-2-.01 and 335-13-4-.26.
