PUBLIC NOTICE – 421

Baldwin County

Stella-Jones Corporation of Bay Minette, Alabama submitted to ADEM an application for renewal of its Post-Closure permit for the surface impoundment which was used to manage hazardous waste at its facility (EPA I.D. Number ALD 031 490 501) located at 1101 Highway 31 North, Bay Minette, Alabama 36507. The Department has determined the facility’s renewal application to be complete and has prepared a draft permit in accordance with State regulations.

The facility has been operating as a wood preserving operation since 1958. The hazardous waste which was managed in the closed surface impoundment (SWMU 1) contained a K001 waste code. SWMU 1 has an approved cap and cover installed over the remaining waste. The permit for this facility addresses post-closure care and groundwater monitoring of SWMU 1. In addition, the proposed permit renewal includes provisions that require any other solid waste management units and areas of concern at the facility to be addressed.

Copies of the fact sheet, permit modification application and draft AHWMMA permit are available for public inspection electronically via http://adem.alabama.gov/public-notices and at the following location Monday – Friday (except legal holidays) during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A nominal fee for copying and/or mailing may be charged.
