PROPOSED CONSENT ORDER

Pursuant to the provisions of the Alabama Environmental Management Act, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management is proposing to issue a Consent Order to KTT, LLC d/b/a Med Rid Medical Waste Services, which operates a medical waste transporter and treatment facility with ADEM Permit Numbers TRN042910-3902 and TRTS042910-3902, located at 501 Little Rock Avenue in Sheffield, Colbert County, Alabama.

The violations consisted of the following: transporting improperly sealed or unlabeled containers of untreated medical waste; utilizing a transport trailer that contained holes in the flooring; operating transport vehicles with permeable wooden flooring; operating transport vehicles without displaying the ADEM permit number; failure to provide proof that the steam sterilization unit was being evaluated for effectiveness during each run; and failure to maintain all required documentation for the steam sterilization unit.

The Order, if issued, would require KTT, LLC d/b/a/ Med Rid Medical Waste Services to comply with the terms and conditions of its Medical Waste Program permits and all applicable rules of Division 17 of the ADEM Administrative Code and pay a civil penalty in the amount of $7,300. 

Interested persons may submit written comments, including a request for a hearing, within 30 days of the publication date of this notice to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, Attention: Stephen A. Cobb, Chief of the Land Division, P.O. Box 301463, Montgomery, Alabama 36130-1463.

The comment period shall end at the close of business 30 days from the publication date of this notice.  A copy of the proposed order is available on the ADEM web page at:  http://adem.alabama.gov/compInfo/adminOrders.cnt or may be obtained by written request to the above address.  A nominal fee for copying may be charged.

This notice is hereby given this 24th day of September, 2021, by authorization of the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
