NOTICE OF A PROPOSED SITE CLOSURE UNDER THE ALABAMA HAZARDOUS WASTES MANAGEMENT AND MINIMIZATION ACT (AHWMMA) AND REQUEST FOR COMMENTS

Lamar County

Weyerhaeuser NR Company has submitted a Focused Hot Spot Removal Report, dated January 8, 2020, and Environmental Covenant, dated November 12, 2020, for its facility (EPA I.D. Number ALD 067 142 406) located at 14715 Highway 96 in Millport, in Lamar County, Alabama.  The site has undergone closure activities to meet industrial standards.  The Environmental Covenant will implement institutional controls for the site.  The property will be restricted to industrial use only, and the use of groundwater as potable water will be prohibited.   

Copies of the fact sheet, Focused Hot Spot Removal Report, and Environmental Covenant are available for public inspection electronically via http://adem.alabama.gov/newsEvents/publicNotices.cnt and at the following locations Monday – Friday (except legal holidays) during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  A nominal fee for copying and/or mailing may be charged.  Arrangements for copying should be made in advance.

Persons wishing to comment may do so, in writing or by email, to the Department's named contact above within 30 days following the publication date of this notice.  In order to affect final decisions, comments must offer technically substantial information that is applicable to the proposed closure.

Copies may be obtained by contacting Mr. Russell Kelly, ADEM, Permits and Services Division, at the above address.  A nominal fee for copying and/or emailing will be charged.  Arrangements for copying should be made in advance.
